Worked example
The total rise is divided by the desired riser height and rounded to give a whole number of risers. For example, if the total rise divides more evenly into a slightly different riser count while still staying within the recommended riser range, the calculator will prefer that. Once the riser count is fixed, the actual riser height is calculated exactly as total rise divided by the number of risers. The tread depth is then used to find the total run by multiplying treads × tread depth. The stringer length follows from Pythagoras: the square root of rise squared plus run squared. The stair angle is the arctangent of rise divided by run. Nosing is recorded separately and shown in the cut summary but does not change the structural run figure.
